Akuvox door phones are compatible with different types of electronic locks, including powerbolt locks, electric strikes, and electromagnetic locks. This article gives a brief introduction on the locks, guides you on selecting the door lock, and teaches you to connect them to the door phone relay.

Except for E20, all Akuvox door phones support connecting to locks.

Door Locks Introduction

An electronic door lock mainly has the following three types:

PowerBold Locks

This lock can be locked with power (NC, normally closed) or opened with power (NO, normally open). When it is set to be NC, the lock can be opened when it is open-circuited.

Electric Strike

Likewise, the electric strike can be opened when it is short-circuited.

Electromagnetic Locks

The electromagnetic lock is locked when the power is on, which means it can be opened when it is open-circuited.

Select the Door Lock

You can select the door lock based on the following two purposes.

A.  Fail-safe: When the fail-safe mechanism is applied, the lock will stay locked when the power is on( close-circuited, with current on) and unlocked when it is open-circuited (with current off). Therefore, the fail-safe mechanism allows you not to be locked inside when a sudden power cut occurs. All the above three types of door locks are applicable to the fail-safe.

B.  Fail-secure: when the fail-secure mechanism is applied, the lock will stay locked when the power is off (open-circuited, with current off), and unlocked when it is short-circuited (with current on). This means the fail-secure mechanism can keep the door locked when a sudden power cut occurs. Both the PowerBold Lock and the electrical strike are applicable to the fail-secure.

Note

Select the NC lock for a fail-safe application, while select the NO lock for fail-security.
